Built by the 1st Baron Wimborne around the later part of the
19th century as a road from Canford manor to Bournemouth train
station, it had two bridges crossing main roads. These were at
magna road (just to the west of the present lay-by), and Ringwood
road (just to the south of the Mountbatten Arms). After the road
had left the heath and crossed
Wallisdown road (Bourne Bottom), it then meet Wallisdown road
somewhere near its junction with the present Scott road, and
continued its way to the station pretty much the same as we would
today.
